Nuwara Eliya

Central Province

Nuwara Eliya sits high in the tea country and is cool enough that its colonial-era nickname, Little England, still sticks. Manicured gardens, a boating lake and old-fashioned hotels give it a distinctly different feel from the coast.

Tea factories offer tours and tastings, and Horton Plains National Park, with its cliff viewpoint known as World's End, is within reach for an early start. Bring a jacket, even in the middle of the day.
