Sigiriya is a rock fortress rising from the plains of the cultural triangle, with a climb of steps up to the summit and the remains of gardens at its base. It is one of the most visited ancient sites in Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is normally paired with Dambulla's cave temples, which are a short drive away. Early starts help you avoid the heat and the busiest hours at the rock.
