Udawalawe National Park

South-central Sri Lanka

Udawalawe is an open grassland park around a large reservoir, and it is one of the best places on the island to see wild elephants in the open. Herds are often seen close to the tracks, along with water buffalo, deer and many birds.

Safari jeeps run in the morning and the afternoon. The nearby Elephant Transit Home cares for orphaned calves and has set feeding times, which are worth planning around.
